UN agency gets Saudi’s $13.5m donation to rebuild Gaza settlements
THE United Nations for Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) on Tuesday announced it received 13.5 million dollars from Saudi Arabia for victims of last summer’s Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip.
Adnan Hasna, the Gaza-based media advisor of UNRWA, told newsmen that the donations would be used for renovating the houses, which were damaged during the Israeli offensive.
On July 8, the Israeli army waged a large-scale military offensive on the Gaza Strip which lasted for 50 days, causing large number of houses and infrastructure damaged.
“The Saudi donations to be distributed today for 10,000 families to renovate their partially damaged houses all over the Gaza Strip,’’ Abu Hasna said, who called on other donors to fulfill their pledges for Gaza reconstruction.
On Jan. 27, the UNRWA announced that it stopped compensating the Gaza Strip’s families, whose homes were partially or totally destroyed.
The move sparked large protests all over the coastal enclave. (Xinhua/NAN)
