Youths block Elumelu over bad roads
Youths around Onicha-Uku community in Aniocha Council of Delta State have reportedly held the House of Representatives member, Ndudi Elumelu, hostage for hours over deplorable roads in his area.
The Guardian learnt, yesterday, that Elumelu was on his way to his village, weekend, when youths blocked him and his entourage.
They lamented the deplorable road from Isele-Uku to Onicha-Uku, before the NYSC Orientation Camp, which, to them, needs government’s attention.
It was learnt that Elumelu was trying to navigate the bad road to his community, when surprisingly, youths from their hideout jumped onto the road and blocked him.
They alleged that since Elumelu was voted into power, there had not been meaningful development in the area, noting that the roads had become worse, even as he was asked to name any project he attracted to the community for the past years he had been their representatives.
They said: “Enough is enough, we can not continue to see our community remain underdeveloped when somebody like you is in Government, doing nothing to change the narrative.”
It was learnt that Elumelu allegedly parted with about N300,000 after prolonged negotiation with the youth, who initially demanded for N1 million as they insisted that Elumelu was “only representing himself and family”.
Elumelu could not be reached, as calls put across to his phone by journalists in Asaba was not responded to.
