FOLLOWING clashes in Zaria and Kaduna in Kaduna State between members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Shiites and the Nigeria Army, governors from the 19 Northern states have pledged to find solution to the face-off, so as to avert a repeat of the ‘poor handling’ of the Boko Haram episode.

Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, who chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), said the Forum was meeting in Kaduna concerning the incident in Zaria, because the affected Islamic group has membership across the nineteen states in the north and beyond, even as the governors had immense confidence in the leadership and wisdom of Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, who responded swiftly to the incident.

According to him, “We are not in any way comparing the Islamic Movement with Boko Haram, no. But we don’t want the same mistake that happened over the Boko Haram crisis to repeat itself.

Meanwhile, prominent Lagos-based lawyer and social justice activitist, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegberuwa has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to immediately relieve the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai of his post.

The relevant law applicable in the Zaria region, according to the human rights lawyer, is the Penal Code and if any member of the sect has breached any portion of that law, he or she should be dealt with according to law, not to be treated as animals or captured slaves, or be subjected to martial law.
