Let IBB be

SIR: Yorubas are never known to be hard-hearted people. It is very unfortunate that respectable Yoruba leaders including Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others boycotted the Edo bi-partisan rally of one-man-one-vote because of the presence of former and aspiring President Ibrahim Babangida.
It is also unfortunate that President Babangida annulled the June 12 election but President Babantida proved to be an apostle of one-man-one-vote in the election that would have ushered in Chief M.K.O Abiola as Nigeria’s President.

President Babangida has owned up to annulling the Abiola election but it has also been revealed that more Yorubas participated in it of about 40 people who contributed to the annulment of the freest and fairest election conducted by President Babangida.

Many people thought the annulment was good for M.K.O. Abiola as payback for his involvement in the traumatisation of late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, described as the best President that Nigeria never had.

Who encouraged Chief Awolowo’s treason trial, who sent him to prison, who truncated his ambition to be President in a ridiculous my-hands-are-tied two-thirds of 19 states judicial pronouncement? Who went to South Africa to say that M.K.O Abiola was not the Messiah that Nigeria needed?

I appeal to Yoruba leaders and people to forgive, forget and let sleeping dogs lie and let IBB be.
