SIR: The availability of both Garegu power plant phase one and two and Ajaokuta Steel industry has not been a blessing to Lokoja the state capital. When the Geregu one and two plants were to be installed, the government promised to ensure the availability of constant power supply to the entire Kogi State and the federal capital territory of Abuja.

It was made clear to the people of Lokoja that a step-down of one of the transformers would be installed at Zango town near Lokoja to serve the people of Lokoja and its environs, but all this has been in vain. The Geregu power plant has been serving the entire Abuja without any input to serve Lokoja. Yet this power plant passes through Lokoja town and it is located near the ancient town.

The entire town now only enjoys four hours of light daily, which has affected the town at this time of excessive heat. The ministry of power should install another transformer that would give power from that of Geregu power plant to enable the people of Lokoja the state capital enjoy uninterrupted power supply.
