Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Monday, said that his legacy should be defined by the institutions established during his administration that will bring about good governance, rather than by infrastructural projects.
Makinde stated this in his keynote address at a two-day mid-term leadership retreat themed: “Reflecting on Progress, Refining Priorities and Refining for Maximum Impact and Legacy.”
The event focused on developing a strategic roadmap for Oyo State from 2023 to 2027. It was held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“Great vision demands deliberate coordination… I don’t want to be remembered for constructing roads, but for the institutions we have created that will bring good governance,” he said.
Makinde called for cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders to deliver good governance to the people of the state.
“Let us cooperate and coordinate ourselves to deliver good governance to our people. Together, we can build a legacy of good governance that stands the test of time,” Makinde said.
The governor used the occasion to allay fears of a possible cabinet dissolution, charging all members of his cabinet and other political officeholders to strive to leave a lasting, positive impact in their various assignments.
“Some may not finish with us because of their political ambitions,” he said, assuring them of his support in their future endeavours.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, provided an overview of the Executive Council’s decisions from May 2023 to June 18, 2025.
The gathering brought together key stakeholders, including government officials and development partners, to discuss the progress made so far and the challenges ahead.
