The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down 35 facilities across four states for violating environmental laws and regulations.
The affected facilities, located in Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers States, were sealed for various environmental infractions, including failure to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) before project commencement, non-submission of Environmental Audits, and lack of functional effluent treatment systems, among others.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, NESREA Director-General, Prof. Innocent Barikor, emphasized the agency’s commitment to environmental protection and strict regulatory compliance.
“We will continue to carry out enforcement operations to safeguard the environment. These actions are intended not only to protect the ecosystem but also to serve as a deterrent to other operators who may be tempted to ignore environmental laws,” Barikor said.
In Enugu State, the sealed facilities include Rugal Pharmaceutical, located at the Emene Industrial Layout; China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) at Owo Yard; Planet Project at both Holy Ghost Central Park and Garriki Central Project; Reinforce Global Construction Company Ltd at the Enugu-Abakaliki Flyover; Enugu Electricity Distribution Company on Okpara Avenue; Tanit Medical Engineering Ltd at the Enugu International Hospital Project; and Mil House Energy Services Ltd in Awhum Village.
In Anambra State, affected facilities include Hardis and Dromedas in Umunya; Pinnatech Engineering Asphalt Plant in Awkuzu; Fadon Bonded Terminal along the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway; Merit Bonded Terminal and Zenith Shipping Company in Nawfia; Donclimax Bonded Terminals in Amawbia; Ikenga Shopping Mall in Nkpor; Reliable Steel and Plastic Limited in Onitsha; and ILed Bonded Terminals in Oyi.
In Bayelsa State, sealed premises include China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) on Obogoro Road, Swali, Yenagoa; Megastar Technical and Construction Company Ltd on Imiringi Road, Yenagoa; Azikel Dredging Company, also on Obogoro Road; Monier Construction Company (MCC) Nigeria Ltd in Igbogene, Yenagoa; Raycon & Co. Nig. Ltd’s administrative office and dredging site, both in Imiringi Community, Ogbia LGA; and Abili Integrated Services Ltd, also located in Imiringi Community.
In Rivers State, Multi Plan Nigeria Limited, situated at Okuru-Ama, Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout in Port Harcourt, was sealed off.
Prof. Barikor reiterated NESREA’s commitment to a sustainable environment and urged all facility operators to comply fully with environmental standards and regulations. He warned that further defaulters would face similar sanctions.
