The Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria, (ESVARBON) has called on new estate surveyors and valuers to exhibit the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Speaking at the induction of 739 registered estate surveyors and valuers in a ceremony held in Abuja, the Board Chairman, Mr Dosu Fatokun, said that ethics are the cornerstones of the practice, adding that upholding these values will not only enhance reputation but also contribute to the growth and credibility of the profession.

Fatokun also urged them to continue the journey of self-development through the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development programme, as this signifies commitment and strengthens the standards of practice.

According to the board chairman, staying abreast of the best practices and emerging trends in the noble profession is crucial for maintaining the excellence that the board demands as this is also the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.

He said: “Our observation is that there is a deficient structure of the current practice of estate surveying and valuation in Nigeria. It is usual to classify activities in the oil industry into upstream and downstream. We are in the downstream sector involving valuation, agency, management and others.”

He, therefore explained that upstream is the property development, saying, it involves the supply of diverse real estate commodities like the construction of housing estates, commercial office blocks, malls, modern markets, and recreational and leisure complexes.

Also, the Chairman of the Professional Practice Committee, Stephen Jagun, stressed that newly inducted candidates passed through rigorous academic qualification, professional training, ethical scrutiny and assessment before their final presentation for the induction.

Giving a charge to the inductees, Oludare Bello, drew their attention to the provisions of the Land Use Act and construction process, saying, they must always be mindful of the title of their clients either in valuation or in acquisition.
