Lagos tasks estate residents on creating sustainable communities

The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Housing, has called on residents of government-owned housing estates in Ikorodu to actively collaborate in creating more sustainable and livable communities.

The appeal was made by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, at a recent forum held at Ayangule Jubilee Housing Estate.

The forum, designed to foster direct engagement with residents, explored key aspects of estate management, including maintenance, security, waste management, and overall environmental sustainability.

Toriola emphasised that residents’ input, expertise, and commitment are vital in shaping effective strategies and improving services.

The permanent secretary, represented by the Director of the Estate Department, Mrs Olukemi Fosudo, encouraged residents to submit complaints and feedback through a dedicated QR code, the Ministry’s social media channels, or by letter to the Permanent Secretary’s office.

He said, “This push for transparency and inclusivity underscores the government’s commitment to responsive governance.

“This will help us align with the THEMES+ agenda, which prioritises inclusivity and aims to improve quality of life through investments in infrastructure and amenities.”

Fosudo further urged residents to take ownership of their estates, emphasising the importance of timely service charge payments to facility managers in order to maintain the infrastructure.

She also stressed the need for peaceful coexistence among residents, regardless of tribe, religion, language, or race, to foster a harmonious environment.

Fosudo highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of developing sustainable homes for Lagosians with functional infrastructure that rivals global cities.

Mr. Peter Esene, Chairman of the Ayangule Jubilee Housing Estate Residents Association, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its efforts in promoting resident well-being and sustainable living practices.
