Modupe Ozolua: A Beckon Of Hope For Boko Haram Victims
IN a society where most women are tied to the apron strings of men, Modupe Ozolua, has chosen to be different. She is the founder of Body Enhancement Foundation through which she has continued to impact on many Nigerians including the young and old.
Modupe Ozolua is on a mission to rehabilitate displaced survivors of terrorist group, Boko Haram. Modupe who pioneered reconstructive surgery in Nigeria has been touring Northern Nigeria in this regard. She has been known to provide them with food, shelters, sewing machines and she even plans starting a school.
The 43-year-old business woman who is known for her body enhancement surgery has actively conducted humanitarian programmes in Africa in the last 12 years; and impacted countless Nigerians through different philanthropic programmes such as free surgeries, free food and donation of clothing.
The top beautician and mother of one while speaking recently on her noble cause, said: “Since we took on the challenge of rehabilitating Nigerian women and children displaced by the Boko Haram insurgents, our focus is to rehabilitate them, not give them relief.
Donating food, mattresses, etc is giving relief; it’s not helping them get back on their feet and reintegrating them into the society. Of course, they need relief as they have no means of fending for themselves, but that is what they have been receiving for months.
“In order for them to regain their dignity and start earning a living again, regardless of what petty trade they used to do before becoming displaced, they have to be assisted by enabling them to be self-sufficient again.
We have already started this process in Gombe and Adamawa states. As you know, there are many displacement camps in different states and the number of occupants differ due to the size of the camps.
“In Gombe, we have rehabilitated women in two camps after conducting a survey of their skills, ages, villages of origin and how many children each woman has; something no other organisation had ever done. Not even government officials had asked these people what they did for a living prior to being displaced.
After getting the information, we purchased all they needed to commence their businesses. We gave them sewing machines, money for petty trading, fabrics to trade, paid their rent, gave items needed for local food processing, clothing, food and also toys to their children.”
Amos Adamu’s First CAF Assignment Celebrated sport personality and former COJA President, Dr Amos Adamu, seems to have finally found his way back to the highest football ruling body in the world, FIFA, after completing his suspension term, which ended last year.
Former FIFA Executive Committee member, Adamu was part of the proceedings of the Confederation of African Football General Assembly recently in Cairo, Egpyt to elect the continent’s two representatives on the FIFA Executive Committee, and the six members on the CAF Executive Committee.
He was invited as a special guest by CAF to its 37th Ordinary General Assembly at the Aida Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel, Cairo. The invitation letter of the former Director-General of the National Sports Commission was signed by CAF General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani, who said it was in line with the belief that Adamu’s wealth of experience as a former FIFA and CAF Executive Committee member could not be ignored.
Adamu reportedly entered into private discussions with CAF President, Issa Hayatou and FIFA boss, Sepp Blatter that lasted for hours; an indication that he has sealed his return to FIFA.
Before now, it would be recalled that Adamu has been shuttling beteween Nigeria and FIFA Headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, in a bid to perfect all the necessary procedures to fully reclaim his position in the scheme of things in the football ruling body. He was in November 2010 banned for three years for breaching rules on loyalty and confidentiality.
No Lagos Title For Bode George Not many know that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Olabode George, has about 32 chieftaincy titles conferred on him across the country, but none yet from his place of birth – Lagos.
People attribute this to political inter-play in the state; and Bode George, being a die-hard member of a party perceived to be an arch rival of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, would find it difficult to get a title in the state.
Although Lagos monarch, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, knows full well that George, aside the fact that he hails from Lagos Island, coupled with his pedigree in the country, is ripe for a title, the party he belongs to is an handicap George became Military Governor of Ondo State and later Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), then National Vice-Chairman in the South West zone of the PDP.
In October 2009, he was sentenced to a 30-month jail term for charges that included contracts splitting and inflation.
Have Kemi Nelson And Remi Adiukwu-Bakare Settled Their Long-Time Rift? That is the question begging for answers among the fans of the erstwhile friends.
For more than a decade now, Chief (Mrs.) Remi Adiukwu-Bakare, a Lagos top politician and Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson, a high society woman-cum-politician, have been engaged in a silent but raging war.
Yet, all attempts by family members and close friends to resolve the issue between the two Lagos heavyweights female socialites have been unsuccessful. The rift, it was learnt, is connected to the rivalry between the two politicians.
It all started immediately Adiukwu-Bakare, wife of Oluwalogbon boss, Alhaji Bakare, indicated her intention to join the then Alliance For Democracy (AD) from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nelson, who was then in AD was not comfortable with the move because of the belief that with Adiukwu-Bakare’s political astuteness, her influence in the AD would be diminished.
Nelson’s Network Progressive Group, the political machinery that used to control power in the Ikeja axis which has some loyalists, joined the Crystal Club Alliance of Adiukwu-Bakare.
The members then saw Adiukwu-Bakare as their political leader in Ikeja. Before they went their separate ways, both women were very close. In the 90s, Adiukwu-Bakare encouraged Nelson to embrace politics.
As we gathered, the ex-Lagos State Commissioner also contributed in no small measure to Nelson ‘s campaign in 1992 when he she ran for the Lagos West Senatorial District election on the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).
After the annulment and subsequent proscription of all political parties by the late General Sanni Abacha regime, the two politicians were quiet until 1998 when active politicking returned.
Nelson, who was a part of the United Nigeria Conscience Party (UNCP), where she won a ticket to the House of Representatives but was not inaugurated, joined the AD during formation while Adiukwu-Bakare was the deputy governoship candidate of All Peoples Party(APP).
Nelson, in 2003, made a move to go but the dream was cut short by the emergence of Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi as the senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District. She was then compensated with the position of a commissioner by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Although she was given option of going to the House of Representatives, she rejected the offer. Now, the stage appears set for a showdown between the duo who have been working to affirm their superiority in Lagos State politics.
But given the current trend and the political astuteness of Nelson, it remains to be seen how Adiukwu-Bakare who seems to have lost out in the scheme of things, will be able to match her friend on the political scene of Lagos State.
Screen Diva, Ronke Ayuba Regains Groove Screen goddess, Ronke Ayuba, who has been missing in party circuits lately, may have finally regained her groove.
In recent times, the former Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) newscaster has remained the star attraction at top society parties with her fashion statements, which are still being described as show-stopper.
The ageless broadcaster who had kept off the social radar for some time now, has however found her rhythm. Ronke, who is married to Senator Abubakar Tanko Ayuba, a retired army general and one-time Minister of Communications, has now embraced society functions to the extent that any party she attends, she is always the cynosure of all eyes.
She always look graceful, charming and charismatic in the classy attire she wears. Ronke, who was in the league of Sola Adelehin (now Sola Momoh), wife of Channels Television boss, John Momoh; Hauwa Baba Ahmed, Grace Egbagbe, Sienne Allwell Brown and Ruth Benamesia-Opia in their days in NTA, is no doubt back in the groove.
Much Ado About Akeem Shodeinde’s Movida Nite Club Back in the days, Akeem Shodeinde, the tall and upwardly mobile guy, was a constant feature in the happening scene of Lagos.
One can recall a few years back when he revamped and changed the club’s name on Idowu Taylor, Victoria lsland, Lagos from Club Extreme to Movida Nite Club and turned around the fortunes of the social spot which was already on a downward spiral. Movida instantly became one of the hottest spots in Lagos as the patronage soared.
He literally dictated the pulse of the society as far as night life was concerned. But a lot of in-fighting with other partners and stiffer competition from newer clubs and most especially Akeem’s kidney related ailment saw Movida losing patrons faster than it takes to blink. A feeble attempt to rebrand could not rescue the fun spot from the abyss it had been plunged.
His ill-health had started with acute diabetes which he battled for a while . He went to India for treatment and was getting better but according to people close to him, he was hit by another crisis that has kept him out of the public for months which his doctor later confirmed to be kidney related disease. Akeem since then no longer runs the popular club, like he used to do while his younger brother manages it.
He has now retired to his Oniru Estate home and hardly ever comes out these days. People who have seen him recently said he has lost a lot of weight and he receives treatment weekly from at a hospital in Victoria Island.
From all indications, everything appears to be on a stand still. We just hope this turn of events is transient because the world still expects more from Shodeinde.

Nine Years After Tragic Loss In ADC Crash, Lady Josephine Nwaeze, Stands Tall Lady Josephine Nwaeze’s loss of her beloved husband in the ADC Airlines crash in Abuja in 2006 was a harrowing experience which many people may not have recovered from. For Nwaeze, it was a turning point in her personal life as well as the life of the company, News Engineering, which both she and her husband labored to build over the years.
Above all, it was opportunity to draw nearer to God Almighty who has been the source of her strength more than ever before. Reminiscing on her husband’s death, the fair complexioned Chief Executive of News Engineering said: “My case can be likened to a situation where one is on board of a plane which has the pilot and the co-pilot.
You also have the air hostess people that attend to passengers. All of a sudden, the air hostess noticed that the pilot and co-pilot are down with food poisoning.
The passengers on board are scared of what was going to happen next; everybody is jittery that the plane will nose-dive. “Each time I think of myself and I remember that scenario, it goes a long way to buttress my experiences.
I fondly call myself an emergency chief executive. It has not been easy; there have been several challenges since I assumed office as substantive CEO.
There have been mountains to scale, oceans to navigate. Above all, God has given us the grace to keep moving on”. Her late husband, Sir Cyprian Ojimadu Nwaeze will really be very proud of his wife for taking their company to greater heights. Indeed, the Bible, in the book of Proverbs, says that a good and hardworking wife is like a crown on the head of a king adding honour and glory to the king’s stature.
So many men had great visions, worked so hard but unfortunately they married the wrong spouses. The late Cyprian Nwaeze was a blessed man indeed. An indigene of Abia State, Lady Nwaeze is a mother of seven children. She studied Language Arts at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and also holds an MBA from the university.
Her hobbies include reading and playing golf. Nwaeze is a hands-on chief executive who believes in rolling up her sleeves and getting to work on the fields with her staff. And consequently, she ensures she regularly inspects the several projects the company works on to see that they meet international standards and are done within the set time frame.
