Solomon Kikiowo Omojokun Passes On

Omojokun-THE death has occurred of Major General Solomon Kikiowo Omojokun (rtd). A former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he died at 79 years on December 25, 2014. 

  He attended Igbobi College, Lagos, and later obtained a double honours B.Sc (London) in Mathematics/Physics from the Nigerian College (now University of Ibadan) in 1958. He worked as a science teacher in Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army in 1963. 

  Omojokun served his country in various capacities. He taught at the Nigerian Military Schoo, Zaria, and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.

  He also served as Commandant, Nigeria Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi (1970), Director General NYSC (1975-1979); Commandant, Nigeria Army Education Corps (1979-1984), Federal Minister of Labour, Employment and Productivity in the Buhari regime in 1985, after which he retired from the Nigerian Army.  After retirement, he served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cuba and Mexico (1987-1991). 

  Since retirement, he lived a private life in his birth town, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State.  He is survived by his wife and children.
