BPP forces NFF to revoke N175m secretariat furnishing contract

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revoked the N175.9 million contract for the renovation and furnishing of its new secretariat, the Sunday Dankaro Football House, located at the package B of the National Stadium, Abuja.

The move, according to sources within the federation, is a direct result of the criticisms that trailed the process that led to the award of the contract.

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) had earlier condemned the process that led to the contract awarded to Messrs. Valerino Interiors and ordered for its revocation. The BPP said the contract did not pass through the due process.

The Guardian gathered that the contract, which was awarded in January 2015 at the cost of N144 million, was upwardly reviewed to N175.9 million on June 14 following a request from the contractor, who cited the sudden rise in the exchange rate.

Confirming the development at the weekend, the Assistant Director of Communications at the NFF, Ademola Olajire, said the decision to revoke the contract was taken when the federation realised that it did not go through the due process before approving it. He added that the NFF would re-award the contract after following the normal process as directed by the BPP.

Olajire, who disclosed that the federation would soon place an advertorial in some national dailies to formally request for tenders from Nigerian firms for the job as required by law.
