President of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Akin Akinbobola, has congratulated soccer loving Nigerians on the performance of the national U-20 soccer team, the Flying Eagles, at the on-going World Cup in New Zealand.
Nigerian was eliminated from the competition by Germany, which beat the Flying Eagles 1-0 in their second round game. In a statement yesterday, Akinbobola said, “It must be placed on record that the performance of the team leaves so much for the future as we saw a set of promising and talented footballers, who will take the football world by storm in the nearest future.
“I say congratulations to the Nigeria Football Federation and all members of the football fraternity for the future that looks so bright. The coaches and all members of the team must be commended for giving Nigerians hope for the future.
“The look on the young faces of the players, coupled with decent performance showed that Nigeria can actually get it right in the area of true football development.”
Akinbobola, who is also a Director in the League Management Company (LMC), commended Nigerians for showing true spirit in supporting the team at all times.
“The overwhelmingly support given to the team by Nigerians was massive. People will wake up any time, especially in the middle of the night to watch and support the team even in the face of a lot of challenges facing the country. Every soccer loving Nigerian deserves a bit of commendation for the future that looks so bright.”
