Dinkesa eyes Okpekpe Road Race glory

Ethiopia’s Abebe Dinkesa says he is interested in the 10km Okpekpe International Road Race slated for May 16 in Etsako- East area of Edo State, adding that he would contact the organisers of the competition on participating at the event.

Dinkesa, who said he just heard of the annual race despite the fact it was already in its third edition, believes he will win the next edition of the competition. The marathoner, who is well known for his exploits and regular participation at the annual Obudu International Mountain Race, has carted home the cash prizes ranging from $50,000 mountain competition.

Dinkesa is said to be in top form for any race as he is also preparing for the Saudi Arabia half-marathon slated for April 21. The Okpekpe race cash prizes, include $25,000 (first), $15,000 (second) and $10,000 (third) in the male category and $15,000( first), $ 10,000 (second) and $8,000 (third) for the women. Edo State indigenes would get special cash prizes, among which are N100, 000 for the first male finisher and N75,000 for the first woman to breast the tape.

Second-placed male finisher will get N75, 000, while the third finisher will take N50,000. In the women category, second prizewinner will get N50, 000, with the third woman getting N25, 000.
