Team returns to training ahead Tunisia game
Despite the 4-1 thrashing of Niger Republic in their opening game of the on-going African Nations Championship in Rwanda, Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, believes the team is capable of doing better than their performance on Monday.
Speaking at a dinner organised for the team after the game with the Menas, Oliseh promised that with more matches Nigerians would begin to appreciate the quality of players representing the country at the championship.
“It is easy to work with these guys because they are hungry and they are always asking questions to get better.
“I have to admit that they were nervous in the first half, but that is allowed because it was their first appearance [for most of the players] on the international stage,” he said.
He thanked the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, who was at the stadium to watch his team, for his support, saying, “I have to admit that his coming was good for the team as we scored four goals for the first time.
The players were paid their win bonus of $2,000 each, as well as training camp allowances, while the sports minister and League Management Company (LMC) chipped in with donations of $10, 000 each after they beat Niger 4-1 in their opening
The team returned to training yesterday to prepare for their second Group C clash against Tunisia on Friday.
Nigeria will play their third group match in Gisenyi against Guinea at the Rubavu Stadium on Tuesday, 26 January.
