Enyimba, Sunshine Stars light up Aba, as FC Taraba hosts Wolves
Still smarting from their 1-2 loss to Warri Wolves at the weekend, players and officials of Enyimba say they will extract their pound of flesh from league leaders, Sunshine Stars, when they meet in Aba today. The loss to Wolves halted Enyimba’s nine-match unbeaten run.
Enyimba are third on the log with 30 points from 17 matches, while Sunshine Stars are on 33 to occupy the first position.
A win for Enyimba will most likely take them to the second position, as the Akure Gunners have a +6 goals advantage over their hosts. But the ‘Peoples Elephant’ would move to the top of the log if they scored as much as six unreplied goals.
Pundits tip Enyimba to win today’s game as they have dominated the ties between them at their hallowed stadium for the past three seasons. But they also accept that Sunshine Stars have become so resilient this season such that they have been on the first position far longer than any other side this term.
In Makurdi, there is a possibility that Warri Wolves might not honour their game against FC Taraba following the paucity of funds that have hit the team.
Officials of the team say they would do everything possible to avoid being walked over by their opponents, who have not won any game in their last 15 matches.
Sani Abacha Stadium is the venue for one of the star games of the midweek, with second-placed Wikki Tourists, which have the best away record this season, meeting defending champions, Kano Pillars.
Wikki have won three games on the road and against an underperforming Kano Pillars, the Bauchi boys could record the biggest upset of the season at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
