Excitement as Amazing Boys lift MRS Kids’ Cup

After weeks of football action, Amazing Boys, Ikoyi have emerged champions of the fifth MRS Kid’s Cup, beating hard-fighting Oluyole Boys of Ayobo, Iyana-Ipaja, 2-1 at the Campos mini stadium, Lagos Island.

Muiz Suleiman put the Ikoyi Boys ahead before his namesake, Muiz Giwa, scored the second goal to seal victory a few minutes before the final whistle to cart away a giant trophy and cash prize donated by the sponsors. A happy Giwa could not hide his joy after scoring the winning goal.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Managing Director of MRS Oil Nigeria PLC, Mr. Andrew Gbodume said the competition, which started in 2013, was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility in youths and sports.

He noted that the youth have put Nigeria on global map through music, sports and entertainment, adding that MRS decided to focus on the sports aspect through football.

“It is also an opportunity to ensure that these kids perpetual youthfulness and future is not stolen from them.“I must commend the players and officials for playing to the rules of the game and I urge the players to combine their  football with education because it will help in determining what they will be in future,” he concluded

The chairman, Lagos State Divisional Football Association, Prince Falade Oyekanfun praised MRS for sponsoring the competition, while reiterating the need for the development of grassroots sports to raise future stars, not only for the state, but also the country at large.A total of 64 teams, both male and female, started the 2017 MRS Kids Cup on May 12.
