‘Flying Eagles are unstoppable’
DESPITE Germany’s pedigree in youth football, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) still believes the European champions would not pose any threat to the Flying Eagles’ ambition of getting to the final of the on-going FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Nigeria will clash with Germany in the round of 16 on Thursday at the on-going Junior World Cup.
NFF technical committee chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu, said yesterday in Abuja that the Flying Eagles’ first match loss to Brazil was a blessing in disguise, arguing that it re-awakened the players’ desire to play well in the championship which they entered as African champions.
“I think there is no stopping the Flying Eagles. Even though they are playing Germany, who are European champions, I strongly believe that the team is confident enough to pick the final ticket in this championship.
“Our first match loss to Brazil was enough to put them back in shape. What happened to them against Brazil was a wake up call, which they have heeded and bounced back. They would have been filled with overconfidence if they had won that match. With their current form, I do not see them falling to Germany on Thursday. They only have to maintain their form because this is the knock out stage,” Anyansi warned.

I am not happy we are going to play this match. It was a tactical error not to avoid Germany at this stage if Flying Eagles had played draw with Hungary. The Hungary match should have been used as a practice match as we already qualified before the match. The Nigeria Coaches and the Technical Crew have always shown they lack Tactical Depth at this level of FIFA competitions and beyond. We have previously failed tactically at the 2008 Olympics Finals and the last World Cup in Brazil. I wish the Flying Eagles well and pray the technical crew will prove me wrong. I have confidence in the abilities of the players but the technical crew.
We will review and take appropriate action.
