OVER 90 lady golfers from Nigeria and other parts of the world are expected to battle for various prizes at the 17th IBB Ladies Open Golf Championship, which tees off Thursday at the IBB international Golf and Country Club in Abuja.
According to the organizers, the championship, which has various categories, has been captured in the world golf calendar and included in the ranking system of lady golfers in the world, hence it has become a three-day championship in line with world standards for a golf open championship.
Speaking during a pre-tournament press briefing Wednesday in Abuja, the Lady Captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Ketumi Alasa, revealed that the IBB ladies have prepared well for the championship, stressing that they have good players that could win the championship this year as against the last edition, which was won by a Zimbabwean.
She also disclosed that the winners of the various categories would be presented with trophies and prizes, explaining that the club has worked hard to get partners and sponsors for the continuity of the championship.
“Last year, we had three players from other countries that participated and the winner came from Zimbabwe, but this year, we are expecting over 90 ladies from Nigeria and the outside world. We have been training very hard and hoping that the winner of this edition will come from the IBB ladies,” she enthused.
