Eagles Star, Egwuekwe, Fails West Ham Test
Warri Wolves, Dolphins Suffer Defeats in Super Six
SUPER Eagles and Warri Wolves skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe was not given a contract by English Premier League side West Ham because “he was slow and clumsy”.
MNTFootball.com revealed Saturday that Nigeria international defender Egwuekwe failed to impress The Hammers after he underwent trials at the London club recently.
“Azubuike underwent trials at West Ham and Watford, but he didn’t do well enough to impressed the officials and no contract was offered,” a top source disclosed.
And while a section of the Nigerian press was misled and celebrating the player’s arrival in London to sign the dotted lines for West Ham, Egwuekwe was in Israel finalising a move to Hapoel Tel Aviv.
While Egwuekwe failed to make good use of opportunity of signing a deal in England, his club, Warri Wolves suffered defeat in the on-going Super Six contest in Abuja.
In another game Saturday, Nigeria champions Kano Pillars beat Dolphins 2-0.
