Iheanacho, Yahaya missing, as Garba picks 21 for African Youth Championship

MOST Valuable Player at the UAE 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup. Kelechi Iheanacho, and Musa Yahaya, who was the most valuable player at the 2015 Glo Premier League Super Six play-off in Abuja recently, are the most notable absentees in the list of 21 players release by Flying Eagles’ Head Coach, Manu Garba, to represent Nigeria at the 19th African Youth Championship (AYC) in Senegal.

  Iheanacho, was being pushed by his English Premiership side, Manchester City, to be part of the AYC, was recently reported to have copped an injury in training, while Yahaya was injured in the Flying Eagles’ last friendly match against b the black Meteors of Ghana in Accra recently.

  The team list released by Garba showed that the player that won the 2013 U-17 World Cup would be in Senegal for the African tournament. They include former U-17 Captain, Musa Muhammed, who is the skipper of the current team, Akinjide Idowu, Izuchukwu Omego, Abdullahi Alpha, Dele Alampasu, Chidera Ezeh and Taiwo Awoniyi.

  Others are Joshua Enaholo, Saheed AbdulGaniyu, Bernard Bulbwa, Alhassan Ibrahim, Christian Pyagbara, Abdullahi Alfa, Saleh Usman, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Samuel Okon, Obinna Nwobodo, Ifeanyi Mathew, Bello Zaharadeen, Wasiu Jimoh and Olorunleke Ojo.  

 The Flying Eagles are in the same Group A with host Senegal, Congo-Brazzaville and Cote d’Ivoire in the tournament, which holds between March 8 and 22 in the Senegalese cities of Dakar and M’Bour.
