Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games begin next month

THE preliminaries of the football event of the 2010 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games will hold from January 17 to 23, 2010, while the Games proper has been fixed for February 14 to 20, the organising committee has announced.

The committee also revealled that for effective organisation of the Games, committees have been created with Peter Odjoji of NNPC retaining his seat as chairman of the executive committee. According to the organising committee, other members of the executive committee are Evans Krukrubo (Shell) and Michael Nwoko (Addax Petroleum), as first and second vice chairmen respectively, with Mercy Agbelese (NNPC) as general secretary.

Pat Otowo will serve as assistant general secretary, just as Ronke Awe of Chevron is the treasurer, the organising committee added. Meanwhile, sub-committees for the day-to-day running of the Games were also set up, with veteran sports administrator, Rotimi Obajimi, who doubles as consultant to the Games, elected chairman of the technical committee.

F. Akande heads the ceremonial sub-committee while Debo Atunwa is head of the publicity sub-committee, with Ken Ngoka and C. Ikocha heading prizes and medical sub-committees respectively. The draws for preliminaries of the football event will hold on January 7 at the Main Organising Committee’s meeting in Lagos.

The Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games is a biennial sports meet, which attracts attendance from all key actors in the local industry. The finals of the last edition were held in Abuja in February 2008, where Shell emerged the champion.
