AS Nigerian steps up preparations for adequate and effective participation at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in India, the Nigeria Paralympics Committee (NPC) has concluded plans to stage its trials in Ibadan from today till Sunday at the Liberty Stadium.

NPC Secretary, Simoen Ebhojaiye, who disclosed this in Lagos last weekend, hinted that only three sports would be involved in the five-day exercise. These include athletics, powerlifting and table tennis. In athletics, he said, four events to be competed for are 1,500 T54 for men and women, 100 metres T46 for men, 100 metres T37 for women, shot put F32-34/52 for men and F32-34 /52/53 for women.

For powerlifting, it will be open bench press for men and women, while table tennis will feature women wheelchair singles only. However, Ebhojiaye pleaded with stakeholders in paralympic sports to ensure that athletes in the listed sports participate actively in the Ibadan trials.

Winners will be invited to camp immediately to commence full preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.
