Teslim Balogun Stadium comes alive for final matches

FOR the second time since its renovation, the Teslim Balogun Stadium will be agog as the curtains are drawn on this year’s Lagos Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Principal’s Cup.

The stadium will host the boys and girls finals, with Gaskiya Senior College confronting Oriwu Senior Model College in the boys event, while Akande Dahunsi Memorial High School clashes with Alakoto Senior Secondary School in the girls division.

To berth in the final, district five representative, Gaskiya Senior College, edged out 2009 runner-up, Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, 5-4 on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw at regulation time. For Oriwu Senior Model College, it was an easy ride to the final after the Ikorodu team thrashed Agboju Senior Secondary School 4-1 in the semi-final played at Campos Mini Stadium.

In the girls cadre, the Jessica Agu-inspired Akande Dahunsi Memorial High School overran the Seun Adekoya-captained Ikorodu Senior High School side while Epetedo Girls Grammar School fell to Alakoto Senior Secondary School in the semi-final matches.

Over 313 schools participated in this year’s tourney, which stakes a giant trophy and N1 million prize for the winner. N750, 000, N500, 000 and N250, 000 have been earmarked for the first runner-up, third and fourth placed teams respectively in both male and female categories.
