President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey has backed Victor Osimhen to shine alongside Galatasaray in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Erdogan gave his backing to Galatasaray on Thursday when he met with the club’s players and officials to honour them for winning the Super League and the Turkish Cup during the 2024/25 season.
“We came together today in Istanbul with the esteemed athletes and executives of Galatasaray, which has achieved a significant success by becoming the champions in the Super League and the Turkish Cup, and has earned the right to wear the fifth star on its coat of arms with 25 championships,” Erdogan wrote on his official X account.
“I believe that Galatasaray, a distinguished club that stands out not only with the trophies it has won in its history but also with its sports culture, the exemplary athletes it has trained in many branches and the contributions it has made to the image of our country, will make us proud in the Champions League next season. I send my greetings to Galatasaray fans and the entire Galatasaray community.”
Meanwhile, Galatasaray fans have practically been begging Osimhen to stay at the club for at least one more season, saying the Nigerian striker will always be their hero and legend.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last summer and the Super Eagles striker went ahead to have a truly remarkable campaign with the Turkish club.
The 26-year-old scored 36 goals and contributed eight assists in 40 games across all competitions for Galatasaray, leading to the club’s fans begging him to stay.
“No matter what you decide, we will forever be grateful for everything you’ve done for this club. you will always be our hero, our legend. i truly believe that our paths will cross again one day. until then, you will always have a place in our hearts,” Linoge and Yasin Erkal wrote on X.
Huseyin, Purple and Arda Yildiz said: “Victor Osimhen, please stay with us at Galatasaray.”
Gabriel Dunswort heaped plaudits on Osimhen, posting on X: “An authentic baller. A winner everywhere he goes. We appreciate you.”
Another X user, Onyinye Oduah, said she was happy with Osimhen’s performance and achievements during the 2024/25 season despite his troubles at Napoli.
“I am so pleased how you turned around your season despite being humiliated by Napoli. Your hardwork is exceptional. I hope you get the best deal which you deserve in this summer. Champion!,” Oduah stated.
A Galatasaray fan, Metin wrote: “You deserve the best, we respect the decisions you make.”
Refikcan Ichisar wrote: “We cannot deny that money is a lot in this era, but you cannot buy this happiness with any money in the world. Don’t go, Osimhen, please stay at Galatasaray.”
