Tennis star Bolus targets gold medal for Ogun

A US-based tennis player, Christopher Bolus, representing Ogun State at the National Sports Festival, has expressed a desire to bring home the gold medal.

Bolus expressed confidence in his abilities, noting that he is competing at a high level similar to the games in the US.

Bolus, currently the tournament’s top seed, is determined to deliver gold across all tennis categories, singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and team events.

He is brimming with excitement and pride as he dons the colors of Ogun State at the ongoing 2025 National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024.

Fresh off a hard-fought victory in his opening match, Bolus shared his emotions about returning home and competing on Nigerian soil.

He said, “It’s an honor to represent a whole state. We are looking to win gold, and coming from a foreign land, it’s a great feeling returning to Ogun State.”

The talented player, who grew up near Lagos, said playing for Ogun feels like a homecoming. His first appearance at the National Sports Festival carries added weight, not just because of expectations tied to his top seed ranking, but because of what it means to his heritage.

Bolus emphasized that his performance is not just personal, it’s a statement of Ogun’s determination to make a mark on the tennis scoreboard.

On the level of competition, Bolus acknowledged that the local talents are impressive, with skill levels close to what he encounters regularly in the U.S, adding that, “Everybody plays almost the same level that I play over there (in the U.S.). The only difference is that I probably compete in more matches than they do. So level-wise, it’s similar.”
Reflecting on his opening match, Bolus said he would remain humble despite being pushed to deliver his best.
