2025 Hajj: Shading, cooling projects launched in Arafat, Mina

In preparation for Hajj 2025, the Permanent Committee for Hajj and Umrah, chaired by Deputy Emir of Makkah, Prince Saud bin Mishaal, held its first meeting to assess ongoing development projects and readiness across the holy sites.

The meeting, held under the directive of Emir of Makkah and Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, focused on enhancing the pilgrimage experience through major infrastructure upgrades and service integration.During the meeting, the committee reviewed comprehensive plans and preparations from all relevant authorities to ensure operational readiness for this year’s Hajj.

Prince Saud bin Mishaal emphasized the importance of early planning and seamless coordination between sectors to uphold the Kingdom’s commitment to offering world-class services to the guests of God.

Among the highlights was the review of several key development initiatives currently underway across Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. These include:Mosque restorations in Mina and Arafat; shading and cooling projects led by Kidana Company, including 50,000 square meters of shaded pedestrian paths in Mina and 60,000 square meters in Arafat; cooling canopies with mist fans at Jabal al-Rahmah covering 785 square meters; climate control efforts at the Namirah Mosque, covering 85,000 square meters; afforestation initiatives aiming to plant 10,000 trees to improve air quality and lower temperatures; water and rest area facilities, including 400 drinking water coolers and 28,000 square meters of pilgrim rest zones.

In a significant move to improve emergency response capabilities, the committee also reviewed plans for 15 new emergency and first aid centres and 71 support stations along the pilgrimage routes. These centres will not only provide critical medical aid but also offer logistical support including water, snacks, and guidance services.

The second phase of the Muzdalifah Haram Path Project was another key agenda item, covering 170,000 square meters. Features of this project include rubber flooring, green spaces, misting systems, water fountains, rest areas, 64 two-story restroom complexes, and the renovation of 135 waste compactor sites in Mina to enhance sanitation capacity.

These projects are part of the Kingdom’s unwavering dedication to improving the Hajj experience year after year, ensuring the safety, comfort.and spiritual enrichment of millions of pilgrims from around the world.
