Tax practitioners install Abdulkareem as fifth female District Chairman

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Lagos District has installed Mrs. Zaynab Abdulkareem as the new District Chairman to steer its affairs for a period of two years.

The investiture makes her the fifth female chairman to be elected and the 18th chairman for the Lagos chapter.

The colourful investiture ceremony, which also witnessed the induction of new executive committee, was held, yesterday, in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, CITN President, Adesina Adedayo, urged the new executive members to show zeal in using their position to take the body to enviable heights.
He also noted that efficient networking would help build bridges of harmonious relationships among tax professionals and other professionals.

In her acceptance speech, Abdulkareem expressed joy over the emergence, commending the platform for its role in churning out professionals who have contributed to the development of the association and country at large.

She advised the Federal Government to harness revenue generation in the area of taxation, adding that over-reliance on oil and gas may not be sufficient for the country’s survival in the coming years.

She assured that innovation and creativity, which has been the core mandate of the body, would be enhanced for continuity in order to raise the standard of taxation practice among members.

“It is imperative we start talking tax because beyond other income generating sources, tax is one major opportunity for the government to generate revenue when the right policies and tax collection culture is implemented,” she said.
