ISPON to discuss opportunities in oil, gas industry at forum

THE yearly President’s Dinner of the apex software body in Nigeria, the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) has been confirmed to hold March 6, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

   According to ISPON, this year’s dinner promises to deliver sustainable solutions to the nation’s knowledge industry.

   Speaking on what will be the first President’s Dinner in his tenure, Pius Okigbo Jr. expressed his delight in the opportunity of hosting a gathering of ICT Professionals and Captains of industry in a bid to review the current situation in Nigeria as regards software development and promotion as well as to chart new courses for the industry’s growth and development in the country.

  “Keeping in line with ISPON’s tradition of delivering value to the vibrant local software community, this year the dinner is set to examine the diverse opportunities that exist for local software firms in the Oil and Gas industry under the Nigerian Content Act 2010.”

   ISPON disclosed that the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Monitoring and Development Board (NCDMB), Ernest Nwapa would deliver the keynote on the theme “Software and Local Content in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Ecosystem.”

  A statement from ISPON said Nwapa, an engineer is charged with the responsibility of spearheading Nigerian content development efforts including design and implementation of interventions to promote local capacity building, overseeing the implementation of Federal Government law, policy and regulations on Nigerian content.

   “With over 20 years in the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry,  Nwapa is best poised to deliver thoughtful insights on the opportunities that are abound for software firms”, the statement said.
