Five female council officials have passed away in just two months, prompting concern and speculation across the state.<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eThe most recent loss is Adebimpe Akintola, council manager of Coker Aguda LCDA and Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State. As a key figure in her council\u2019s administration and accounting, her passing on Monday September 29th hit hard. She was buried the same day according to Islamic rites, marking the fifth council official lost since the current administration began on July 27, 2025.<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eHere\u2019s the timeline. On August 13, Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor for Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government, passed away just two weeks after being sworn in. She was the only female councillor in her council. Five days later, on August 18, Zainab Shotayo, the sole female councillor for Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, died, only three weeks into her term.<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eThe losses continued. On September 20, Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, passed away 55 days after taking office. The next day, September 21, Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, councillor for Ward F in Shomolu Local Government, died, just 56 days into her role.<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eFive women. Five deaths. All within two months. Across the street of Lagos, people are voicing their shock and concern on social media, with many calling these losses unusual, even suspicious, wondering what could explain such a rapid succession of deaths among newly elected female officials.<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eThe Lagos APC has responded to these concerns. Their spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, stated, \u201cIt was read in the news that they were indisposed. It has nothing to do with any kind of politics. This is a surprise. Wherever that is coming from demeans humanity if it is being looked at properly.\u201d<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eStill, questions remain. Why have these five women, all serving in local government, passed away so suddenly? What does it mean when reports mention they were \u201cindisposed\u201d before their deaths?<br \/>\n\u200e<br \/>\n\u200eLagos is in mourning.
