The driver appeared for his first court hearing today Friday, January 2nd, 2026, facing serious charges of manslaughter and reckless driving. The charges stem from the fatal accident that occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which claimed the lives of two of Joshua&#8217;s close associates,personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength coach, Sina Ghami<\/p>\n<p>According to Guardian correspondent David Meshionye, who reported live from the courthouse, the atmosphere remains tense. Meshionye notes that while the driver\u2019s family has been reluctant to speak officially to the press, they have shared crucial details behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>The defense\u2019s core argument centers on a mechanical failure; the driver claims the vehicle\u2019s brakes failed as he approached a stationary truck. Despite his reported efforts to bring the car to a halt, he ultimately rammed into the parked vehicle. Following the hearing, the case has been adjourned until January 28th, and the driver was initially moved to the Sagamu Correctional Center while his legal team finalized documentation.<br \/>\nIn the latest update from the courthouse, the presiding magistrate has granted the driver bail.
