Community disowns American missionary’s entourage on visit to Wada

EMIWORO Community in Ajaokuta Local Government of Kogi State has disowned the entourage of American Missionary Rev Phyllis Sortor who went with her on a visit to Governor Idris Wada.

The community said the people that went with her were not representatives nor were they leaders of her host community where she is running her Hope Academy.

This is coming on the heels of her return from her home country and visit to the Governor Captain Idris Wada in the company of supposed leaders of Emiworo.

The Guardian recalls that unknown gunmen abducted the 80-year-old Sortor in February.

Prince Ndaa Abu who spoke to The Guardian indicated that those captured in the media, as their leaders were non-native Fulanis that cannot represent the community.

He said the people of the village hold Sorto in very high esteem because of her missionary work that has brought development to their community.

“When she returned to Abuja we were happy and we called her and asked when she would be returning to Emi-woro.
“When she returned she paid visit to the palace, she showed herself and she appreciated all the concern and effort to secure her release after her abduction.”

Meanwhile, wife of Kogi Governor, Mrs. Halima Wada has appealed for public support to widows “to insulate them from the hostile circumstances that may surround them in the society.’’
