The head of the Intelligence Division of Mexico’s Federal Police, Ramon Eduardo Pequeno, has been fired due to the escape of Sinaloa cartel leader, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera.

A source within the Federal Police announced the news Wednesday, saying that the position would be taken up by Damian Canales Mena, who was previously the Secretary of Public Safety of the State of Mexico.

Guzman Loera’s escape from the Altiplano federal penitentiary has caused an uproar among the Mexican public, with many calling for the resignation of the national security cabinet, made up of members from the Secretariat of the Interior, the National Commission of Security, and the Office of the General Prosecutor.
