AS tension continues to rise following the gruesome murder of former Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, and the All Progressives Congress candidate for Ukanafun state constituency in the April 11 elections, Mr. Okon Uwah, the State Police Command has arrested four suspected persons.

This was revealed to the media by the State Police Commissioner Mr. Gabriel Achong, in his office at the Force Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.

Achong, who did not disclose the names of the suspects for security reasons, said immediately after the incident, police operatives led by a very senior police officer, quickly mobilised to the scene, which led to the arrest of the perpetrators.

“Consequently, our coordinated investigation into the case has led to the arrest of four suspects who are helping the police in the investigation.

“The findings of this investigation would be made public, as anyone culpable will be prosecuted no matter his/her position in the society,” he said. Uwah was beaten to death by suspected political thugs on Wednesday, March 18, in ward 3 in his council area while carrying out consultation with politicians in that ward.

Reacting to the dastardly act, the state governor Godswill Akpabio, ordered a full-scale probe into the death, charging security operatives to ensure that those behind the act be brought to book.
