writeThree visual artists Mr. Samuel Ovraiti, Juliet Mrs. Ezenwa Maja-Pearce and Mr. Phillip Lexie Nzekwe are current residents of the Dr. Wale Okediran-inspired Ebedi International Writers Residence in Iseyin, Oyo State.

Ovraiti is generally acclaimed as the flag-bearer of the Auchi art colour masters. He is Nigeria’s foremost watercolourist. He is a seminar speaker and life-coach at his self-development centre in Ojodu, Lagos.

Ezenwa Maja Pearce was first introduced to art forms by her grandmother, a reputable traditional body decorator using uli, the art and style adopted and made popular by the Nsukka School. Juliet was initially known for her sober watercolour paintings of landscapes and women. She recently compiled the book, Issues in Contemporary Nigerian Art 2000-2010.

Nzekwe is a full time studio artist based in Asaba, Nigeria, who has featured in several Arts Exhibitions at home and abroad.

Apart from working on new ideas, particularly those inspired by the serene and bucolic Iseyin landscape, the three artists have been busy engaging with students in Iseyin.

This will be the first time Ebedi Writers Residency will feature and all artists appearance. From the wonderful artistic works created by the happy students who daily throng the residency to learn from the masters, the visit by the artists has been a worthwhile and successful collaboration.
