Financial stocks contribute 59.9% to NSE’s volume

A total of 5,850 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N5.702 million were traded this week in seven deals, compared with a total of 750 units valued at N695,229.29 transacted last week in eight deals.

The NSE All-share index and market capitalisation appreciated by 1.52 per cent and 1.53 per cent to close the week at 37,425.15 and N12.899 trillion respectively.

The Financial Services industry dominated in volume terms at the end of last week’s transactions on the trading floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
It led the activity chart with 1.507 billion shares valued at N16.354 billion traded in 12,511 deals, thus contributing 59.85 per cent to the total equity turnover volume.

Following the financial service industry last week was the industrial goods industry with 441.914 million shares worth N89.356 million in 1,282 deals. The conglomerates industry ranked third with a turnover of 184.608 million shares worth N701.665 million in 929 deals.

Specifically, trading in the top three equities, namely – Dangote Cement Plc, Access Bank Plc and Zenith International Bank Plc accounted for 833.966 million shares worth N95.969 billion in 3,203 deals, contributing 33.12 per cent to the total equity turnover volume.

Further breakdown of last week’s transactions also showed that a total turnover of 2.518 billion shares worth N114.117 billion were recorded in 23,546 deals by investors, in contrast to a total of 2.211 billion shares valued at N30.636 billion that changed hands in 26,287 deals during the preceding week.

Also traded during the week were a total of 1.166 million units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N16.169 million executed in 17 deals compared with a total of 1.732 million units valued at N13.711 million transacted last week in 19 deals.

A total of 5,850 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N5.702 million were traded this week in seven deals, compared with a total of 750 units valued at N695,229.29 transacted last week in eight deals.

The NSE All-share index and market capitalisation appreciated by 1.52 per cent and 1.53 per cent to close the week at 37,425.15 and N12.899 trillion respectively.

Similarly, all other Indices finished higher during the week with the exception of the NSE Banking and the NSE Oil/Gas Index that depreciated by 1.64 per cent and 3.05 per cent respectively while the NSE ASeM Index closed flat

About 38 equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than 51 equities of the previous week, while 28 equities depreciated in price, higher than 23 equities of the previous week. Also, 105 equities remained unchanged higher than 97 equities recorded in the preceding week.

A total volume of 160,770 and 239,803 units of 13.386 per cent FGS July 2019 and 14.386 per cent FGS July 2020 FGN Savings Bond were admitted to trade at the Exchange on Tuesday, August 1st.

Also, 1,000,000,000 Ordinary Shares of 50k at 75k were added to the shares of Livestock feeds Plc on Tuesday, thus bringing its total outstanding shares to 2,999,999,418 units.

A total volume of 8,115,300; 77,262,202; and 119,843,000 units were added to the following bonds 14.50 per cent FGN JUL 2021, 16.2884 per cent FGN MAR 2027, and 16.2499 per cent FGN APR 2037 respectively on Friday July28th.
