GSK, Stanbic IBTC, others lift NSE’s indices by N43 billion

Following price gains recorded by major blue chip stocks, transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange ( NSE) continued in an upbeat yesterday, resulting to a further rise in market capitalisation by N43 billion.

Following price gains recorded by major blue chip stocks, transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange ( NSE) continued in an upbeat yesterday, resulting to a further rise in market capitalisation by N43 billion.

Specifically, at the close of trading yesterday, market capitalization of listed equities improved by 0.34 per cent to N12.726 trillion, as against N12.683 trillion traded the previous day.

Also, the All-share index increased by 123.10 basis points to 36971.27 points from 36848.17 points recorded on Friday.

Investors traded 214.959 million shares worth N2.731 billion in 4262 deals as against 151.613 million shares valued at N2.242 billion that exchanged hands the previous day in 3243 deals.

A breakdown of the transactions for the day showed that GlaxosmithKline (GSK) led the gainers’ table during the day, adding N1.05 kobo to close at N22.05 kobo, Stanbic IBTC followed with a gain of N1.00 to close at N43.00, while Zenith International Bank gained 80 kobo to close at N26.30 kobo.

National Salt Company of Nigeria appreciated by N0.65 kobo to close at N13.85 kobo while Presco Plc added N0.50 kobo to close at N67.50 kobo. Dangote Cement appreciated by 0.48 kobo to close at N223.98 per share. UACN garnered 0.30 kobo to close at N16.50 per share.

Flourmills added 0.29 kobo to close at N30.00 per share. Dangote Sugar Refinery gained 0.21 kobo to close at N13.90 per share. C&I Leasing and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company also garnered 0.17 kobo to close at N1.95 and N3.57 per share respectively.

On the other hand, Nigerian Breweries Plc topped losers’ chart, dropping N2.00 to close at N163.00, Vitafoam trailed with a loss of N0.12 kobo to close at N2.64 kobo, while Custodian and Allied Insurance declined by N0.10 to close at N3.50 kobo and Medview Air went down by N0.07 kobo to close at N1.52 kobo.

Continental Reinsurance depreciated by N0.06 kobo to close at N1.38 kobo. NEM and Access Bank dropped 0.04kobo to close at N1.33 and N9.72 per share respectively.

Sterling Bank depreciated 0.03 kobo to close at N1.00 per share. Diamond Bank lost 0.02 kobo to close at N1.12 per share. Jaiz Bank, Livestock, Honeywell flourmills, Oando and Unite Bank for Africa shed 0.01 kobo to close at N0.65, N0.91, N2.00, N5.99 and N9.22 per share respectively.

Further analysis of transactions showed that Transnational Corporation of Nigeria was the most active during the day, trading 30.996 million shares valued at N48.074 million, United Bank for Africa followed with 25.468 million shares worth N236.182 million.

Guaranty Trust Bank traded 23.309 million shares worth N981.379 million, FCMB group sold 15.592million shares valued at N16.153 million, while FBNHoldings traded 13.248 million shares worth N80.744 million.
