Jumia goes tough on vendors, enforces stricter standards

Electronic commerce platform, Jumia, has warned it’s over 7,000 vendors to abide strictly by the rules of engagement committing them to the business, going forward.

Electronic commerce platform, Jumia, has warned it’s over 7,000 vendors to abide strictly by the rules of engagement committing them to the business, going forward.
  
The Chief Executive Officer, Jumia Nigeria, Juliet Anammah, on Wednesday, said it became necessary to take some steps in order to keep the business going, satisfy and meet consumer demands timely.
  
While appreciating the vendors for their commitment in the time past, Anammah said the eCommerce platform now enforces stricter standards with consequent stringent fines for non-compliance.The new standards according to her include shipping of orders within 48 hours; listing of only genuine products on the platform, and never going out of stock.

  
Consequent fines for non-compliance are: N2, 500 for shipping items late; N50, 000 for shipping counterfeit items; and N2,500 maximum fines for items going out of stock .
 
“Vendors can rest assured that compliance to Jumia’s stricter standards will result in orders from the over one million customers who visit jumia.com.ng daily,” she stated.
   
The Nigerian CEO said the firm is committed to its mission, not because it is easy but, “because it is hard. Every word in our mission is hard to execute in Nigeria, but it is worth it, because we are building a digital Nigeria one transaction, one vendor and one customer at a time. We truly believe that through digital, Nigeria can leapfrog development.”
  
She appreciated the 7,000 active vendors on Jumia, and extended hearty congratulations to those (vendors) who increased their sales volume by up to six times between 2016 and 2017, such as: HAYAT, Oneway Collections, Opeyemi Foods, Best Price Technologies, House of Oge, H&N Couture, Frieslandcampina PLC, Delight Price, Affordable Luxury, and Fashionholic, and a host of others.
   
Anammah specifically thanked Femadons Consumart, E.Mich, UgoSam, and Ojays Store, the vendors, which won an all-expense paid trip on Jumia’s Race to Bangkok, saying they performed tremendously well during 2017, attaining very high sales volumes, seller score greater than 4.6 out of 5 and a wide assortment of products.
   
When asked for her advice for those planning to sell on Jumia, Head of Engagement, Jumia Nigeria, Ojuola Asuquo, said: “Jumia is an online marketplace that presents its vendors’ products to customers, and helps facilitate a transaction. Collaboration with our vendors and customers is pivotal to achieving our mission and vision, which help build, protect and sustain our eco-system. Our sole purpose is to deliver on this mission, and that makes our standards stricter than what vendors may have been used to offline.”
