Nestle, Unilever others lift NSE indices by N23billion

Price gains recorded by major highly capitalised stocks, especially Nestle and Unilever, yesterday pushed market capitalisation by N23 billion.

Precisely, at the close of trading yesterday, 16 stocks appreciated in price as Nestle emerged the day’s highest price gainer with 39.80 kobo to close at N1,190.00 per share while Unilever followed with 2.00 kobo to close at N44.00 per share.

GlaxoSmith Kline added 0.40 kobo to close at N21.40 per share. Guaranty Trust Bank gained 0.36 kobo to close at N37.88 per share. Dangote Sugar, and FBN Holdings garnered 0.17 kobo, and 0.06 kobo to close at N9.72 and N5.80 per share respectively.

Cadbury, UAC-Properties, C&I Leasing and NEM appreciated by 0.05 kobo to close at N11.00, N2.90, N1.15 and N1.10 per share respectively. African Prudential added 0.03 kobo to close at N3.22 per share.

Continental Reinsurance gained 0.02 kobo to close at N1.40 per share. Nigerian Breweries also added 0.01 kobo to close at N180.06 per share.

However, 21 stocks constituted the losers’ chart led by Presco with -3.19 kobo to close at N60.80 per share, while Stanbic IBTC followed with -1.19 kobo to close at N40.01 per share.

Flour Mills depreciated by 1.05 kobo to close at N26.50 per share. Forte Oil lost 0.81 kobo to close at N48.80 per share. WAPCO dropped 0.47 kobo to close at N50.52 per share. Oando shed 0.33 kobo to close at N6.42 per share.

National Salt Company of Nigeria dropped 0.30 kobo to close at N13.00 per share. Eterna Oil lost 0.17 kobo to close at N3.42 per share. Cement Company of Northern Nigeria shed 0.15 kobo to close at N8.75 per share.

Guinness also depreciated by 0.10 kobo to close at N95.40 per share.

Further breakdown of yesterday’s trading showed that the market capitalisation of listed equities appreciated by N23billion or 0.1 per cent from N12.200trillion recorded on Tuesday to N12.223trillion while the All-share index rose by 66.82 points from 35,397.52 to 35,464.34.

Investors exchanged 119 million shares in 3,015 deals. The banking subsector remains the most active stock in volume terms with 47 million shares in 907 deals.
