Carmelo Anthony Retires From Basketball After 19 Seasons


Carmelo Anthony, one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, announced his retirement on Monday. The 38-year-old forward played in 19 seasons, winning a scoring title, an Olympic gold medal, and making 10 All-Star teams.


Anthony was drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick in 2003. He spent seven seasons in Denver, averaging 24.8 points per game and leading the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals in 2009. In 2011, Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks. He spent six seasons in New York, averaging 22.4 points per game.

After leaving the Knicks, Anthony played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers. He won a gold medal with Team USA in 2012 and 2016.

Anthony averaged 22.5 points per game for his career. He is 19th all-time in scoring with 27,219 points. He is also a five-time All-NBA selection and a 10-time All-Star.
