Fear ye not

This four-letter word — fear — has caused a lot of havoc in the world. It has made many destinies go unfulfilled, stopped giants and restrained kings. It has also built a high wall of resistance/opposition to many that would have gone far in life. Fear has made men redundant.

Fear has crippled many to a state of inertia, even in the Christendom. Devil uses fear to cage people, including the children of God. God created man and said he should have dominion, but instead of obeying the instructions of God, man is afraid(fearful) and where there is fear, there is always limitation and disappointed.

At this juncture, let us trace the source of fear in the Bible.
Gen 3:8-10 says: “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9: Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10: So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself,” (NKJV).

As soon as Adam disobeyed (sinned against) God — his creator, he began to hide because he was afraid(fearful). The boldness he enjoyed in the presence of God prior to sin was gone and fear has taken over. Are you like Adam? The counsel of God is ‘Fear ye not.’Sin and disobedience will always lead to fear. And Bible says that fear is a torment andnothing good can come to a man under the influence of fear. That is why most people have abdicated their duty because of devil.

As Christians, we are supposed to be ambassadors of Christ here on earth, according to 2 Cor. 5v19-20, which says: “To wit that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself not imputing their trespasses unto them and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20: Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God,” (NKJV).

Can a man under the influence of fear reconcile men unto God? Our father in heaven who created man in His image and likeness, gave man dominion over all other creatures; but He is not happy that man is fearful and not playing his roles.

Moreover, lack of faith is another source of fear in a man. When you do not believe that God is able to do what He has promised, your faith will be subdued by fear. That is why our text, Isa,41v10 says: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Having seen what fear has done to humanity and to the children of God in particular, God says: “Fear not.” For He is in control and has the power to do all things. These two words ‘Fear Not’ is mentioned 365 times in the Bible and there are 365 days in a year, what this means is that God is counseling His children everyday not to fear.

Therefore, everyday of your life, you should not fear. What are you passing through? Is the world turning upside down, fear not! Are you sick, are you pursued by the enemies, are things very hard? Fear not, for God is in control. God says in our text above that He is with you, He will strengthen you and not only that, He said He will also help you, so, if God who cannot lie has promised to help you, why are you still afraid?

Our economy may be bad, fear not, for our supply is not from earth, but from heaven. Phil 4v19 says: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus,”(NKJV). God does not look at the economy of a nation before he supplies your need, so, whatever be the situation, fear not; our God is more than able to provide for you. If he can feed the lilies in the field that can be scorched by the sun anytime, can he not take care of you whom he created in own image and likeness? Of course, he will do it more for you, so cheer up and trust in Him.

Our second scriptural text above, 2Tim.1v7 says: “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power of love and of a sound mind.”As beloved children of God, we are given spirit of power, not of fear, because our father in heaven is all powerful, He has the power to save, deliver, bless, favour, fight our battles and above all, He has power to grant us heaven at last, so, be joyful and rejoice in the Lord!Prov 28v1 says: “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”

God has made the righteous to be bold; therefore, there is no need to fear. It does not matter what the world is turning to, hold on to God. Once you are with God, fear cannot take hold of you.

Ps 46:1-6 says: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2: Therefore, we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. 3: Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah!4: There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. 5: God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her… NKJV.

What is that trouble that is making you to fear? God is at hand to deal with it. Trust in God with all your heart, whatever the enemyordevil is bringing to your way, shall be dealt with, because God Who has promised, is able to fulfill it. The Psalmist has said it all, that even if the earth be removed and mountains carried into the midst of the sea, among other things, do not fear. God is able to calm the troubled situation, so, be encouraged and stand firm with the Lord.

Note thatas sin brought fear in the life of Adam and Eve, so shall it cause anyone given to it to continue to fear.

In conclusion, run from any form of sin so that iniquity will not be your ruin.Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin a reproach. Make a firm decision today to begin to live holy and God will bless you.
