“The vice president awarded the scholarship in his capacity as private citizen of Nigeria after paying an official visit to BUK to commission projects executed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund,” the statement reads.

A magnanimous Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammed Namadi Sambo has awarded scholarship of N50,000 to 100 students of the Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Director of Public Affairs of the university, Ahmad Shehu, who made this know to newsmen said the vice president gave the scholarship to the students in his capacity as a private citizen of the country.

He said the scholarship would be disbursed to the successful beneficiaries in April 2015, after the University Indigent scholarship Award Committee concluded the screening exercise.

“The vice president awarded the scholarship in his capacity as private citizen of Nigeria after paying an official visit to BUK to commission projects executed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund,” the statement reads.

He said the institution would continue to remember and cherish such gestures from wealthy individuals to assist indigent students.
“Such humanitarian gestures are today seriously needed from wealthy individuals, public office holders and politicians who Allah has blessed to assist students with humble background,” it reads.

The management charged the benefitting students to consider the award as a loan not to be repaid to the donor but to be repaid back to the society through selfless service after graduation.
