floodingFOR the people of Okpai in Ndokwa East, Local Council of Delta State, the death of an 11-year-old girl who got drowned in the flood that is presently ravaging some parts of the state yesterday seems to be a painful reminder of the flood which ravaged the community three years ago.

Also, two persons have reportedly been submerged in the flood water at Anwai area of Asaba just as a visually impaired graduate, Mr. Odigie Osagie Justice was also trapped by the flood around Infant Jesus neighbourhood of the Delta State capital.

The young girl whose identity could not be immediately confirmed was said to have drowned at a tributary of the River Niger at Okpai, located on the bank of the river, following the heavy downpour that practically submerged the community.

Odigie who appealed to the government to come to his aid, recalled that in 2012, the flood completely submerged his house and he lost all his properties.

He said that some government officials came and recorded a video of his house, which was widely shown on television, with a promise to do something but unfortunately not even a dime has been given to him till date.

Odigie appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other stakeholders to come to the aid of all those that have been affected by the flood.

He decried the lack of alternative abode for displaced flood victims by government, noting that the warning to relocate from flood-prone areas made no meaning as there were no places to relocate to.
