Abducted council boss, female doctor regain freedom

THE abducted Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ahoada East Local Council of Rivers State, Mr. Cassidy Ikegbidi and a female medical doctor in the state, Dr. Uju Onatai, have regained their freedom.

The Guardian gathered that Ikegbid was released on Monday, while Onatai regained her freedom on Sunday.

Armed hoodlums, who dressed in military uniform abducted the council boss last week at his residence in the council

A family source, who confirmed his release, said no ransom was paid to his abductors, adding that he was at present receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

Also, Dr. Onatai, who works as a physiotherapist at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) was said to have been freed with bullet wound on one of her legs.

Gunmen kidnapped the mother of two on Monday, April 26, 2015, at about 7:30p.m. in front of her house along East West Road, in Obio/Akpor Local Council.

A family source confirmed her release and the bullet wound, but could not state under what circumstance she was released.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Mohammed, has confirmed the incident.
