Again, Bayelsa journalists mourn as New Telegraph correspondent dies

Barely few days after a journalist was brutally murdered in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) were again thrown into mourning yesterday, following the death of the State Correspondent of the New Telegraph Newspaper, Chris Ejim. Ejim died on Thursday evening after a few days of battling with an undisclosed ailment.

The late Ejim, aged 49, was a graduate of Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra state and a native of Ezira community in Orumba North Local Government council of Anambra State. Ejim, who previously worked with Thisday Newspaper in Lagos and Nigerian Compass was a fearless and bold journalist. He had been leaving in penury since the establishment, which he freelanced for till his death, had not paid him for years.

The Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Kola Oredipe, while confirming the development, described the death of late Ejim, as shocking and devastating.

Also in its condolence message of Journalists in the State, the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in a statement by the Chairman of the Council, John Angese and Secretary, Stanley Imgbi noted that, the news of the death came as a shock as barely a week ago, they lost one of her member, Famous Giobaru who was murdered by unknown gun men.
