AIB to review outdated regulations, accident reporting procedure

NCAA warns against fake, unregistered travel agencies
The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) yesterday said all was set for a review of existing regulations and reporting procedure to accommodate innovations in the global aviation industry.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AIB, Akin Olateru, who spoke at the weekend after a week-long peer review exercise carried out with European partners in Lagos, said all concerned stakeholders had been informed of the review exercise scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.

Olateru said some of the existing regulations of AIB had since become outdated and needed changes.The AIB CEO, who stressed the need to plug the existing gaps in the system, said the peer review exercise included equipment, infrastructure, technical personnel, system, processes and procedures, regulations and the entire organisation, while also benchmarking it with European standards.

In another development, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) yesterday warned intending travellers to be wary of fake agents and to stop patronising unregistered travel agencies.

The apex regulatory body for air travel in Nigeria said the advice was due to the recent increase in reports of fraudulent ticketing practices by “unregistered travel agencies.”Spokesperson of the NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, said: “Consequent upon these reports of sharp practices by unregistered travel agencies, the Authority has therefore directed all duly registered travel agencies to display their certificates of registration or licences in all their outlets.”
