The Akwa Ibom State government has concluded plans to equip the state capital, Uyo, with Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to boost surveillance.

The Akwa Ibom State government has concluded plans to equip the state capital, Uyo, with Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to boost surveillance.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Nse Essien, told journalists, yesterday, that the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ibom Smart City Project for the provision of Wi-Fi in the capital.

He said the intention of the administration was to ensure a fully digitalised and technologically advanced state. He disclosed that another MoU was signed with Broad Based Communication for the laying of fibre optic cables to promote Internet connectivity.

Essien added that the government has begun the installation of 10 Internet-ready computer laboratories, complete with power supply at 10 schools, one in each of the federal constituencies of the state.
