As UPP Absorbs APGA Decampees

National chairman of United Progressives Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has said that Sir Chris Ejike Uche was selected as the party’s deputy national chairman as part of the process regularizing the fusion of the party with a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

This is just as the Alliance for Democracy (AD), says it has regularized the candidature of Olusola Oke for the Ondo State governorship election, saying that it was currently working to strengthen its structure in the Southeast geopolitical zone in preparation for the Anambra State governorship poll.

Speaking to The Guardian over the phone, Ondo State publicity secretary of AD, Mrs. Nola Are, disclosed that the party has ratified the nomination of Oke as the governorship candidate of the party for the November 26, 2016 election.

Also confirming the ongoing restructuring of AD in the Southeast geopolitical zone, the leader of the party in the zone, Reverend Okechukwu C. Obiora, told The Guardian that AD was set to clinch the Anambra State governorship in 2017.

Obiora stated that AD was set to re-assert its pre-eminent position as one of the dominant foundation political parties in the country, recalling that although the party was rigged out in Anambra governorship in 2003, it was now well-placed to clinch the governorship again.

Okorie told The Guardian that the National Working Committee of UPP welcomed the declaration of over 85 percent members of APGA to UPP, which took place in Enugu on November 4, 2016.

He noted that: “it was in the spirit of like-mindedness and fraternity, that the recommendation to appoint Chief (Sir) Chris Ejike Uche, who led the APGA faithful into UPP as the Deputy National Chairman of the party was made.”

While disclosing the creation of five committees, including Contact and Mobilization; Harmonization Committee; manifesto/Constitution Review Committee; Finance Committee and Publicity Committee, to reposition UPP for future political challenges, Okorie said the committees would be constituted at the forthcoming extraordinary National Executive Committee meeting.
