Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday paid glowing tributes to three former governors of Lagos State, Mobolaji Johnson, Lateef Jakande and Bola Tinubu, for laying a solid foundation for the state.

He said the trio were pioneers of development.

Ambode, who spoke at the unveiling of Johnson Jakande Tinubu (JJT) Recreational Park and Garden at Alausa, Ikeja, said the roles played by the trio could not be forgotten.

According to him, “the state has many heroes who toiled and laid the solid foundation for Lagos of today.”

The governor, who described Tinubu as architect of modern Lagos, said the three governors are the true legends of the state of which Lagosians are proud of.

His words: “These eminent Lagosians are some of the very few brave men that stood to be counted on the side of justice and who by their performances while in office have written their names in gold for future generations.

“We have decided to honour these illustrious heroes and patrons of our state while they are still alive through this beautiful garden that has been named the Johnson, Jakande, Tinubu (JJT) Park.

“It is our expectation and hope that this garden will be a constant reminder to us of the sacrifices of these our heroes and the need to protect and preserve the virtues of our heroes and what they stood for,” he said.

In a similar vein, Ambode on Tuesday night said that the progress and development in the state is not just a product of good thinking, but of peaceful co-existence promoted by spiritual leaders.

He, therefore, implored them to continue to promote peace.

The governor, while speaking at an inter-faith parley of religious leaders and organisations, noted that his administration was able to do massive infrastructural projects and renewal because there is peace.

He said the prayers and support for his administration was pivotal to the steady progress that has become synonymous with Lagos.

In another development, Ambode has appealed to private outfits to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras within their premises.

The governor, who spoke at the 11th town hall meeting on security with private firms with the theme, Improving security through technology, intelligence and community participation in Lagos State, said as responsible citizens and worthy stakeholders, they also have crucial part to play for the enhancement of security in the state.

He said: “Please install CCTV cameras in your various organisations to help expand the reach of law enforcement agents in the event of any security breach. We still need your continued support in providing equipment and logistics for the police and other security agencies through your contributions to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.”
