Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has commiserated with families of the late famous lawyer and politician, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, as well as the late first Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ibru.

The governor, who spoke when he visited the Lagos residence of the founder of the defunct Nigeria Advance Party (NAP) and was received by his widow, Grace, said “despite Braithwaite’s parentage and affluence, he decided to identify with the struggles of the Nigerian masses.”

Amosun, who praised Braithwaite’s “steadfast and determined” disposition to life, promised that his government would continue with the legacies left behind by the politician.

Also ‎speaking when he paid a condolence visit to the wife of the late Ibru, Chief (Mrs.) Matilda Ibru, Amosun stated that he would be remembered as an easy going man, who in his days at the Senate influenced many positively.

Also, the Christian Elders Forum (CEF), a non-profit organisation, has described the late elder statesman a firm believer that politics must be based on the fear of God.

In a condolence message jointly issued by co-founding members of CEF, Rev. Dr. Moses Iloh and Elder Moses Ihonde, the body said Braithwaite had spent a lot of his time praying for the country.

According to the group: “Braithwaite, the only known Nigerian who holds corruption and the corrupt in utter disdain, is not dead. He sleeps and wakes as one among whom the Lord gave power to be called a Son of God. We bear testimony that he is regenerated and at peace.

Besides, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, said he (Braithwaite) was old but then we never expected him to go this soon. We lost another titan because he was somebody who will always speak his mind even when it is not convenient for him.

Also, extolling the virtues of the late lawyer, former Minister Commerce and Industry, Chief (Mrs.) Nike Akande, said they were both at the 2014 National Conference “and honestly, Dr. Braithwaite performed excellently in his conduct and manner of argument. We will miss him.

In the same vein, former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Mrs. Ayo Philips, described him as one of the honest elders with integrity that the country will miss.According to her: “Dr. Braithwaite was a senior colleague on the Bench and he was very inspirational.

Elder Tayo Soyode, father of the wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, described the death of Dr. Braithwaite as a big blow because “he wasn’t ill before his demise. He was always a gentle man. We met in 1978 when Chief Obafemi Awolowo was trying to form the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). He was with us but then he changed and formed National Advance Party (NAP).”

In his condolence message, human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, described Dr. Braithwaite as a great Nigerian, principled and a consistent fighter for fairness and justice.

According to him: “Unlike many top lawyers, Dr. Braithwaite throughout the 55 years of his legal practice was never found wanting or at anytime accused of cutting corners.”
